WELCOME TO OUR SITE.....
The Bowden Brompton Community Group Inc. was established by members of the community to:
- serve the needs of the community as determined by the community
- encourage community growth
- provide community services
- develop programs and facilities for the local community
- provide life-skills and adult community education programs
Evolving from community action over 30 years ago, the Bowden Brompton Community Group Inc has developed into a mature organisation now providing a range of programs and services for the whole community These services include: support services, housing services, adult education programs, informal recreational and hobby activities, the provision of newly developed facilities including information technology suite and rooms which can be hired out by the whole community and make the Centre a valuable resource for this area.
The Community Group, established in 1975, has evolved and adapted to the changing community needs. 2004 was a significant year in the Community Groups history and its future ongoing presence within the Bowden Brompton community.
In September 2001, the Centre Management Committee managed to retain ownership of the building rather than the Centre becoming a part of the broader redevelopment.
This achievement was made possible with the initial ground work being laid by staff from previous years, and with the support received from the Hon. Michael Atkinson MP, our local MP.
Already the revitalized building have given many community members a place to hold special family celebrations, as it is within their budget.
It has also attracted workshops, training sessions and small conferences on the weekends which brings in much needed revenue.
The building and grounds have been significantly improved with the garden a delightful area to hold a family BBQ or get together. The last upgrade which included paving the driveway and installation of a Rollerdoor is now finished. We hopefully will be able to build a verandah down the side of the building and across the back of the Centre to provide much needed shade and protection for clients using the facilities.
The Bowden Brompton Community Group is recognized as an important resource in this area, for local community members and those beyond. The support and interest that has been experienced over the years from the community has been overwhelming and reflects the important role the Centre still plays within the local community.
The suburb is now undegoing a massive housing development which will see the building of up to 300 more homes in the area.
The community will be witness to the creation of an exciting and attractive suburb which will provide a renewed and vital area for families to live and work. The influx of new residents to the area, will generate more demand on the services at the Community Centre and the changes already in place will allow for that growth.
Community members are encouraged to have their say in how the Community Group runs, everyone is welcome to become a member of the Community Group for $2.00 and if you are interested you can join the Management Committee. Presently with a membership of 12 on the Managment Committee, ten live in the local area.
Suggestions are always welcomed, and the Manager is always available if you would like to drop in for a coffee and a chat.
