Bowden Brompton
Housing Service

                                                                                                                                         Bill Peterson - Housing Manager

The Housing Service is a Bowden Brompton Community Group service which is funded by the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) (Family/Generic services),
this funding is provided to SAAP by both the Commonwealth and State Governments.

The Housing Manager for this service is Bill Peterson.
Bill comes to the organisation with a wealth of housing knowledge and contacts. Having worked in some key housing organisations and being a current member of the board of Shelter SA, Bill offers a service to clients which can assist with all aspects of housing.

SAAP was established in 1984 as an Australia-wide co-ordinated response to homelessness.
SAAP is a support program assisting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness through a range of  support, advocacy and supported accommodation services.
SAAP is managed by the Department for Families and Communities (formerly the Department of Human Services).

The Bowden Brompton Housing Service
The service manages nine (9) properties in the Bowden and Brompton area, as well as providing advice, advocacy and support for families with housing related issues.

Families who are accommodated by the Housing Service generally stay three - twelve months, while they are supported to help resolve issues impacting on their housing, and their ability to maintain stable accommodation. The service continues to face challenges, managing an increasingly complex and diverse client group, in a very tight housing market

Although exit points from accommodation continue to be major barriers for clients, there has been an increase in the number of tenants moving into South Australian Housing Trust accommodation, and private rental.

FAIRS
Family Accommodation Information and Referral Services is the entry point the Bowden Brompton Housing Service and it was established as a first point of contact for families who are homeless or facing imminent homelessness to call and receive advice, assistance and referral into SAAP programs.

The FAIRS waiting list consistently has 480 families waiting for supported accommodation.  On average families will spend between 14 weeks waiting for a vacancy.

The number to call, for families wishing to access
FAIRS is 1800 003 308

Department of Immigration and Citizenship

The Community Group was successful in winning a grant from the Department of Immigration & Citizenship to work with humanitarian refugees as part of their Settlement Program.

We provide information, advocacy, support and referrals to anyone with a housing related issue. We also have two new members of staff who can help you with your housing issues.

Sukhwinder Singh and Cathy Bromley have both  been employed with the new project  as Private Rental Liaison Officers.
Individuals or families having difficulties securing accomodation in the Private Rental market can make an appointment with the Bowden Brompton Housing Service (BBHS), and get support with their issues.

The Private Rental Liaison Officers will assist with the process of searching for a property on line, completing application forms, and for successful applicants, securing a bond and ,if eligible, some rent in advance.

As a referral service, we are able to link into other services to gain better and more appropriate outcomes for various housing issues
